It’s been precisely 20 years since Bo Peep showed up in a Toy Story movie. Following the events of Toy Story 2 in 1999, the shepherdess was MIA during the events of Toy Story 3. Though her absence was briefly mentioned, it was never explained (and judging by the expression on Woody’s face at the time, it was a touchy subject).
To be fair, Bo Peep’s roles in Toy Story 1 and 2 were very small, and being a porcelain doll, we can assume that she’d want to go off and explore the world. Turns out, that’s exactly what she’s been up to for the last 20 years. Disney has unveiled her new look for Toy Story 4 in a press release:
The reveal included a quote by director Josh Cooley:
“Bo’s taken control of her own destiny. While Woody was watching Andy grow up, Bo gathered dust until she took it upon herself to head out into the world. And when Woody shows up, they can’t believe that they’ve found each other again.”
Voice actress Annie Potts is once again onboard with the role, adding:
“She is modern, independent, capable and confident. Bo is written and conceived to be inspiring as she has weathered life’s ups and downs with grace. I aspire to that.”
Fans have noticed that Bo’s new appearance slightly resembles another Disney heroine – the recent Star Wars jedi-in-training Rey.
Do you see a resemblance, or do you think it’s merely coincidence? Are you excited to see Bo Peep come back after all these years?
In the meantime, check out the teaser for Toy Story 4 below, which introduces Forky, a fork with identity issues.
