Game of Thrones beer is coming

A wise dwarf once said “I drink and I know things.”

HBO is teaming up with New York brewery Ommegang in launching a new Game of Thrones beer to celebrate the return of the series – and to help us survive the remainder of winter.

The beer will be fittingly named For The Throne. Ommegang president Doug Campbell commented on the big news:

“Winter is here, the Wall has fallen, and the final battle for Westeros is underway. With this offering, we have bent the traditional boundaries of beer-making, co-fermenting traditional ingredients with juices normally destined for fine wines, going to great lengths to create a truly unique, special beer. This style of beer often called an ‘oenobeer,’ is a rapidly expanding area of study for us. For The Throne is our first of co-fermentation beer of 2019 and the only one we’ve launched under the Game of Thrones banner.”

The beer will be available in stores by early April, coinciding with the season premiere. Ommegang describes For The Throne as such:

“This 9.5% ABV strong golden ale is co-fermented with pinot grigio and viognier grape juices and then bottle conditioned with Champagne yeast to create an ale fit for royalty.”

I, ScreenPlaya the third-born, first son of DeLeon of the House Gonzalez, will definitely need a sip or two for the emotional roller coaster that this final season will bring. Game of Thrones premieres April 14.

If beer is not your cup of…um…tea, you can always munch on the upcoming Game of Thrones themed Oreos.
