By Michael Gonzalez.
Tell me if this doesn’t sound familiar. It’s Friday night in 1998, you’re eating pizza with your TV tuned in to Cartoon Network. You’re beginning to consider that one in a million chance that you might actually start working on your homework instead of putting it off until Sunday night. Suddenly all thoughts of homework are scattered to the winds when these words emanate from the screen:
“Sugar, spice, and everything nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girls. But Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction…Chemical. X. Thus, The Powerpuff Girls were born! Using their ultra-super powers, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup have dedicated their lives to fighting crime, and the forces. Of. EVIL.”
If I have succeeded in getting the theme song stuck in your head again, my job here is (nearly) complete. I’m also here to inform you that the next generation is getting their own version of The Powerpuff Girls. Over at TV Insider it was announced that Cartoon Network is bringing the Powerpuff Girls back on Monday, April 4. The animator this time around will be Nick Jennings, known for Spongebob Squarepants and Adventure Time. Judging by the music video, it’s likely that the animation will combine the classic look of the original show with modern cartoons like Adventure Time. The decision is understandable, if they would like for the show to appeal to a much younger audience. The original voice actresses are not set to return, having been replaced with Amanda Leighton, Kristen Li, and Natalie Palamides. However fans of the evil monkey Mojojojo will be happy to know that original actor Roger L. Jackson will be reprising his role! Check out the new theme song below.
The original show ran from 1998-2005 and followed a trio of superhero sisters who also happened to be in kindergarten. Make sense? perhaps not, this was the 90’s after all. Powerpuff girls was part of an epic lineup that placed Cartoon Network on the map. Lets hope that the new version manages to hold its own for kids today. In case you’re still feeling some nostalgia for the original theme song, I’ve got you covered below. In the meantime, I’ll be placing a bottle of champagne in the fridge i
n case we get some news regarding Ed Edd n Eddy.
